Tanami Road from Alice Springs to Hall Creek

By Jean – Spending just under 3 months exploring parts of Western Australia in an Earthcruiser over a distance of 14,181km.

The first part of the trip was a quick dash up to Alice Springs, then refuelled and restocked before tackling the Tanami Desert Road. The first 300km is sealed, we stopped at the 200km point – Tilmouth Well Roadhouse for fuel. The next 50km was road works with an excellent bypass road and speed restrictions.

We camped at the Mount Doreen ruins, the next day headed to Roeburn Bore, more road works, corrugations, and some rocky sections. We stopped at Camp Creek, which was a dam with water in an area of trees. There were lots of birds, flowers, and a nice sunset.

On the final day of the Tanami Road, we encountered more traffic due to visitors coming into Wolfe Creek Crater, the pastoral properties, and Aboriginal communities. By the end, we had covered a distance of 1,100km, we really enjoyed the experience and were glad to have had the opportunity to travel the road before it became fully sealed.
